Over the past year, Mashgin has been growing its footprint in higher education, and the company has noted that it will continue those efforts in 2024. Today, the company’s technology is present in more than 30 universities and colleges.

At Dartmouth, students select their products and set them on the kiosk’s tray. Cameras automatically identify the items visually from any angle. This eliminates the need to move items individually from tray to tray or fumble with products.

Mashgin announced Tuesday it has teamed up with software company Keyo on a biometric ID that uses palm-scanning technology for contactless payment, allowin users of its countertop kiosk to hold their hand over Keyo’s hockey puck-sized hand scanner to pay.

The partnership creates a self-checkout experience on par with solutions like Amazon Just Walk Out – but at a fraction of the cost, headache, and privacy concerns for retailers.

Cricket fans are set to benefit from 20 self-checkout food and beverage terminals around Adelaide Oval, after a trial found the median transaction time at Mashgin kiosks to be under 14 seconds, with 92% of fans saying it was easy to use.

According to a Metz release, the devices generate 20-34% more revenue than traditional systems and have produced an 88% return on investment in less than 30 days. Customer reaction has been very positive, with 80% saying they prefer the Mashgin system.

Retailers and tech firms are developing new ways to detect — and prevent — theft. These days, companies like Walmart, Kroger, and more are outfitting their self-checkouts with cameras, AI-enabled sensors, and other high-tech tools to tamp down on theft.

New venues embracing Mashgin devices this football season include the university stadiums at Alabama, Texas and Auburn. The social media team at Auburn posted a fun video of the Auburn Tiger showing how easy it was to use the devices for concessions.
